Hope Valley Cabin
Time of day: Evening, 1 ½ hours before sunset

The Lake Tahoe area is really quite striking during Autumn with Aspens and other colorful foliage putting on a nice show. Hope Valley is especially so.
This scene, along highway 88, is another often photographed view. Often called the “Hope Valley Cabin,” it’s really two structures in fairly close proximity and one must work to exclude the second structure to keep the image simple.
We were amazed at the number of people who stopped to shoot this area; mostly normal people out for an autumn drive, not professional photographers (or serious hobbyist) judging by their cameras. Fortunately, there is a rather long traffic turnout to accommodate the crowds. I suppose October is not much fun for the occupants of this property with all the activity.
There is some rather tall brush partially blocking the view so the best results will be obtained using some elevation. I used a step stool and a tall tripod. Another guy stood on the toolbox of his “pick-em-up truck.”
A delightful place to visit during the Autumn aspen show.
A polarizer was used in this shot.
