Hillside – On the Road to South Lake
Time of day: Morning, 3 ½ hours after sunrise
September 26, 2009
After shooting North Lake on Saturday morning, I headed in the direction of South Lake. The sun had not yet cleared the mountains (it rests in a canyon running north-south) so I parked and waited for the sun to illuminate the aspens on the road to South Lake.
This scene revealed itself to me as I drove back and forth along the road to South Lake several times in an effort to jog the creative juices. The light is a bit harsh but the sun does not illuminate the canyon until about 3 hours after sunrise.
Actually, this scene spoke to me only under harsh lighting since I had passed it several times as I searched for a composition.
Casse insists that this was my best shot from the South Fork. I have learned to trust her judgement, especially when she’s right :).
I have no idea why this scene reaches me, but no doubt, It does.
A polarizer was used in this shot.
