Glowing Utah Hillside
Near Park City
Date: October 2, 2011
Time of day: 3.5 hrs ‘til sunset, slightly overcast
In talking with a friend recently, the subject of recreating an image or returning to an area to reshoot a photo came up. He seemed to think that any image can easily be recreated in the same season next year or the year after with a good result.
Well, I’m here to tell that things change. Trees grow, others die out, weather is fickle at best, more rain and snow leads to more lush foliage of course and conversely; each year the fall color show is different mostly due to differing weather conditions all year long. Like wine, each vintage has its own unique qualities.
I tried to reshoot this image from 2011 in both 2014 and 2016 and both years this hillside looked awful -- to be kind. I was hoping to improve upon it before publishing.
With nature “you places your bets and you takes your chances!”
We didn’t realize at the time how lucky we were back in 2011. Looking back, the colors in northern Utah were off-the-hook that year.
What a simply wonderful view.
