Millerton Lake from Madera Campground
Time of day: Sunset
Date: July 22, 2009
The sunset color in this scene lasted a full hour with varying degrees of intensity. I set up my camera at sunset which was about 8:15pm, took photos until 9pm and quite dark, yet still there was subtle color in the sky. I thought it wise to head back to the car at this time since I’ve always heard that rattlesnakes come down to the shore at night to drink and I had no flashlight.
This shot was taken from the west side of the lake looking east, away from the setting sun. The hillside on the far side of the lake is the elevated locale from which I usually shoot Millerton -- from Sky Harbor Road. See http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/774689_nyyYJ/1/394971404_jHQvL#198668610_wFRYg
A 2 stop hard edged graduated neutral density filter was used in photo. Canon’s 16-35 f2.8L lens was used at 17mm.
